Adobe UK Press Release

Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 2.3 and Camera Raw 5.3 Release Candidates Now Available

Adobe has released Photoshop Lightroom 2.3 and Photoshop Camera Raw 5.3 Release Candidates, both available immediately for download from Adobe Labs at http://labs.adobe.com. The ‘release candidate’ label indicates that this update is well tested but would benefit from additional community testing before it is distributed automatically to all customers. The Lightroom and Camera Raw teams would like the community to help verify the quality of this update through normal usage as this will ensure that the application is tested on a wide variety of hardware and software configurations not available internally at Adobe.

Both release candidates provide additional raw file support for the Nikon D3X and Olympus E-30 cameras. In addition, the Lightroom 2.3 Release Candidate provides a solution to a memory leak that affected some customers of the Lightroom 2.2 release.

Adobe is also pleased to announce the availability of Lightroom in eight new languages, including Dutch, Italian, Portuguese, Spanish, Swedish, Korean, Chinese (simplified) and Chinese (traditional). The Lightroom 2.3 Release Candidate available on Adobe Labs includes these additional languages, and Adobe greatly appreciates any feedback the community can provide the Lightroom team.

Category: Camera, News / Tags: no tag / Add Comment

Nikon D700Nikon have released a new firmware update, version 1.01, for the D700 DSLR camera. The following improvements have been made in version 1.01

  • When Custom Setting a4 Focus tracking with lock-on was set to Off in Continuous-servo AF, the lens drive moved gradually without achieving focus. This issue has been resolved.

  • When the Speedlight SB-800 was mounted on the camera with flash mode set to Distance-priority manual (GN) mode, and then the exposure meters were reactivated or the camera was turned on, the distance information displayed on the SB-800 changed. This issue has been resolved.

  • When the Multi-Power Battery Pack MB-D10 was mounted on the camera and an EN-EL3e battery inserted in the camera but no batteries inserted in the MB-D10, and SB-900 flash mode set to TTL auto flash mode, the flash mode changed to A mode when the exposure meters turned off or were reactivated, or the camera was turned off or on. This issue has been resolved. (This issue has also been resolved with SB-900 firmware Ver. 5.02.

Nikon have released a new firmware update, version 2.01, for the D3 DSLR camera. The most notable changes are geodata support for ViewNX and Capture NX, improved Continuous-servo AF performance, and the ability to use the AF-ON button and multi selector to choose a focus point.

The following improvements have been made in version 2.01:

    • Autofocus-response performance in focus mode C (Continuous-servo AF mode) with relatively dark subjects has been increased.

    • When the AF-ON button is pressed, the monitor turns off and a focus point can now be selected using the multi selector.

    • Photo information displayed in full-frame playback has been modified as follows:
HI-, LO- has been changed to Hi, Lo
WARM TONE has been changed to WARM FILTER
COLOR CUSTOM has been changed to COLOR BALANCE

    • Manamah, displayed in the Time zone options for the World time item in the setup menu, has been changed to Manama.

    • An issue that, in extremely rare cases, resulted in noticeable black dots in images captured with Long exp. NR in the shooting menu set to On has been resolved.

    • When the Speedlight SB-800 was mounted on the camera with flash mode set to Distance-priority manual (GN) mode, and then the exposure meters were reactivated or the camera was turned on, the distance information displayed on the SB-800 changed. This issue has been resolved.

    • An issue that, in some rare cases, caused images captured with the following lenses to be under-exposed, has been resolved.
      AF-S VR Micro-Nikkor 105mm f/2.8G IF-ED

      Nikkor AF-S 50mm f/1.4G review

Category: Camera, News / Tags: no tag / Add Comment

      Nikkor AF-S 50 mm f/1.4G

The Nikkor AF-S 50mm f/1.4G was announced in September 2008 as the company’s flagship standard prime lens. It shares the same bright f1.4 aperture and standard focal length as the much older AF 50mm f/1.4D, but features an SWM focusing motor, which means it’ll autofocus quickly and quietly on all Nikon DSLRs, including the D40, D40x and D60 models.

It’s compatible with full-frame models like the D700 and D3(x), on which it’ll deliver standard coverage. Mounted on a DX-format body like the D60 or D90, its field is reduced by 1.5 times to deliver an equivalent of 75mm, which is a perfect short-telephoto length for portraits. The fast maximum aperture of f1.4 is also ideal for achieving shallow depth-of-field effects and working in low light. To put this in perspective, an f1.4 lens will gather 16 times more light than one at f5.6, such as the standard Nikkor DX 18-55mm kit lens when zoomed-in.
